He was born a king. Half troll and half man, he crawled from the womb of a god and found himself leader of a deformed but powerful race. As he struggles to lead his people Mellinda slithers into their midst. She wields the Rings of Stardeon and she has her own plans for his people. A prophet has been taken. A demon army joins the enemies of the grove.

Will Justan's might and Tarah Woodblade's powers be enough to help Jhonate's people protect the Jharro Grove? It may all depend on the choices made by the Troll King.

The Troll King The Bowl of Souls Volume 9 (Audible Audio Edition) Trevor H Cooley Andrew Tell Books

This is going to be a hard review to write without spoilers.

This book is pretty politically driven, with most of the plot dealing with politics between two parties. You'll see a lot of characters interact who didn't interact much with each other in previous books as well.

Aloysius (spelling? I listened to the audiobook) shows up again as a very confident and logical character. I'm very impressed with Cooley's ability to make a non likeable character likeable. Turns out, Aloysius is one of my favorite characters (not necessarily as a result of this book).

This book left me itching to read the next book. I can't wait for the release!

General review of the series:

Trevor H. Cooley does a magnificent job with The Bowl of Souls series. How he is able to create a world with so many distinct, and likeable characters is beyond me... Cooley is the type of author where if you took out all of the "character saids," you would still be able to tell who was talking almost at all times.

I'd say that my favorite part of his writing is his character development. In the series (without spoiling anything), you follow a young warrior through trials, hardships, and many relationships with other characters. Unlike the Wheel of Time series, it's much easier to keep track of who each character is in the series, despite the huge amount of characters.

Cooley also does a great job with the magic systems in the book. I won't spoil anything here, but fans of Sanderson should enjoy reading about them.

For those who don't have much time to read, I would highly recommend the audiobook format. The first two books are narrated by James Foster, I believe, while the remaining books are narrated by Andrew Tell. These narrators do an extraordinary job with the character voices and make you feel like you're in the story.

For those who love to see a series develop, it feels as if the series starts out slightly YA in the first book, and then matures throughout the series as the main characters mature.

After my first read/listen through, I decided I had to go back and read the whole series again. It's rare that a series, or even a book, is good enough to make me do this.

I would highly recommend this series to any fans of fantasy.

The Troll King The Bowl of Souls Volume 9 (Audible Audio Edition) Trevor H Cooley Andrew Tell Books Reviews

I enjoyed this one. It sucked me in and it went fast. I was surprised and sad when I reached the end, because I wanted more! I think the author is setting up for some awesome stuff. Can't wait to see where he takes his characters. Especially Sir Edge!
This is a fantastic series! Each book continues to build the world and bring the characters together. As usual the action scenes are 'Edge of your seat" reading. I am looking forward to the epic finale and dreading the end of this series.
The adventures of these marvelous people are non-stop and keep you on your toes. The magic, the imagination and the mystery all go hand in hand to keep your attention going even through the slower sections. I look forward to the next installment.
Excellent. I love the continuing character development. Lots of characters usually becomes confusing, but not in the Troll King. I enjoyed the new characters, and the very different take on Trolls in the book. Well written and engaging as all of Cooley's books have been. Can hardly wait for the next installment.
While not the strongest in the series, I still gobbled this book up. Other reviews have complained about too many perspectives and I can see their point, but I just look at it as a build-up to when all of the stories finally crash together into an epic finish. If the other books are any indication, it will be worth the wait.

Very happy with the book and won't hesitate to buy any more published by Mr. Cooley.
The title is sort of misleading, as the Troll King is only part of the story in this terrific book. It's great to read about so many different characters from the previous books. My favourite hero, Squirrel, still believes he can turn into Deathclaw whenever needed. A highly enjoyable battle towards the end of the book. Yet there are plenty of battles remaining to be fought in this outstanding series!
While the jharro grove series is ALOT more elaborate, and at times seems like there are too many pieces on the board, Mr Cooley triumphantly weaves the story together and always blends all the threads seamlessly.
The troll king was a fun read, and although it wasnt as fast paced as some before it , it left me satisfied and I had ALOT of fun flipping the pages.
I can't get enough of the world Mr Cooley has created, and the story is never dull.
All in all I loved this entry. Now I need more...
